Tour of Wisconsin Day 12
Milwaukee has some rather extensive bike trails including connections to trails that extend north and west across the state. Since this was our last full day in Wisconsin, we decided to stay in town and see where the in-town trails would take us.
Oak Leaf Trail and it’s ‘branch lines’ is over 135 miles long. Parts of the trail run along the Lake Michigan shoreline and that’s where we started.
One of the trails we chose was East Side and we rode it south to Hank Aaron State Trail. Aaron hit the last home run of his career in Milwaukee as a Brewer.
As we turned back north, we watched a number of rowing teams go by out for some practice runs.
We ended up riding 16 miles along the lake shore and north towards Lincoln Park. The trails were all paved and much of what we rode avoided intersections. Next time, we’ll plan a few destinations along the way and will make a whole day of it.
At the end of return trip we stopped again at one of our favorite shops, Stone Creek Coffee on Downer Avenue. Mary had the yogurt, granola, and fruit bowl, I had a breakfast sandwich along with their medium roast house coffee. We sat outside and enjoyed the near perfect weather.
Later that afternoon, we were guests at the Wisconsin Club to play some spirited pickleball with family. The courts were very nice as were the club facilities.
We finished the evening out with supper at Buckatabon Tavern & Supper Club where we again sat outside and enjoyed the weather and family.
