We’d heard of the Boone Dinner Train and it had come highly recommended so when planning the South Dakota we got reservations online. We bought out tickets in April for the July date. We were told that the dinner sells rides sell out very quickly.
We arrived a little early and took our time touring the rail museum. At boarding time, they called our name and we walked out to the car. We were escorted to our table. A few minutes later we were rolling. The trip is out and back so the train goes out backwards and returns forward.
The dining car was very comfortable and smooth with very little rocking and motion. We were treated to a full course meal of brisket, mashed potatoes, gravy, salad, desert and it all tasted great. Even the coffee was good!
Once we finished eating we made our way to the rear of the train and stepped out onto the observation platform. We had a nice conversation with the conductor. The tracks were a little uneven and the train’s slow speed, there was quite a bit of rocking (unlike the dining car) so we held on to the railing.
The trip lasted about two hours. For us it was very relaxing. A leasure supper and then viewing the beautiful Iowa countryside. We highly recommend the dinner ride. They also offer other sightseeing train rides for the family. Check it out!
