Tour of Eastern Wisconsin Day 4
We arrived in Egg Harbor around 11:00. We would be staying with friends while there so we unpacked and then headed to Kangaroo Lake for some paddling. However, once we got there, we decided against going out on the lake. The winds were very strong, producing whitecaps. While we certainly have enough experience to handle those conditions, this was to be a leisure paddle. It’s more difficult to enjoy a fun paddle when you’re fighting choppy waters. This paddle was scratched. We plan to revisit the lake sometime on a future trip.
What do you do when your paddle fun is cancelled? You get something to eat. We stopped in Bailey’s Harbor at the Harbor Fish Market and Grill. We ordered the White Fish BLT and the Caesars Salad with Salmon. We enjoyed the food and view from the outside deck.
With our afternoon now a little open we thought we’d put pickleball on the schedule. A search throughout Door County didn’t show a lot of courts, but our friends had researched our options and located courts close by at Maxwelton Braes Golf Resort just outside of Bailey’s Harbor. The courts are dual purposed tennis courts and were even partially protected from the gusty wind. There was $5.00 per person fee to play all day. We lasted for about an hour and a half.
For supper we went to Donny’s Glidden Lodge. It’s address is Sturgeon Bay but it’s on the Lake Michigan side of the county. This restaurant is absolutely worth the trip from where ever you are in the county. It sits right on the edge of Whitefish Bay and our table had a beautiful view of the bay and Lake Michigan.
We both had the pan fried walleye and it was excellent! I think we’ll make a point of eating at Donny Gliddens every time we visit Door County! Reservations are highly recommended-it’s a busy place, even on the weekdays.
