Well at least according to Alice Cooper
Seeing Alice Cooper’s concert has been on my bucket list for quite a while. Mary was a little dubious. After all, he does have a reputation for an edgy, shocking, and sometimes downright distasteful show. I knew what to expect. Mary knows now!
The show was in Moline IL, just a two-hour drive. We checked into Stoney Creek Hotel around 4:00. The hotel is just a short walk from many restaurants and the arena. With free parking, it’s pretty tough to beat. And we’ve always been pleased with our stay.
We headed out around 4:45 to eat. We chose River House Bar and Grill. We’ve eaten there many times and have not been disappointed. That night was no exception and going a little early provided us about 2 hours to finish up before the show.
They were packed! But we got a table right away. We had good food and excellent service. Starting with pretzel bites and beer cheese sauce is always a good call. Since we had some time, we waited until the bites showed up before ordering our main course. Mary chose soup and salad and I picked soup and a turkey club. The soup of the day was chicken tortilla and it was delicious!
About 6:30, we paid our ticket and walked a short five minutes to the arena and found our seats. I’d hoped to buy a souvenir but a quick look in the ‘merch’ area showed mostly t-shirts. I try to find posters, coffee mugs or even a refrigerator magnets. But no such luck this time.

The show was great. And loud. The band played for an hour an 45 minutes. He did an encore and said good-bye to the crowd by saying, “May all your dreams…become nightmares. Well, at least we had that going for us as we shuffled out of the building.
The next morning, we thought about getting breakfast at the hotel. It actually looked pretty good. But we chose a different plan. We needed gas and since fuel was 40 cents a gallon less just across the bridge in Iowa, we drove north into the lovely town of Bettendorf.
Our first stop was Bruegger’s Bagels. We’ve been to this Bruegger’s before. We always try to stop in-sometimes getting a dozen to-go.

Next on the Bettendorf ‘breakfast crawl’ was coffee. Brent’s Firehouse Coffee seemed like a good choice. The drive-up was busy, the walk-in would be quicker. The main area was a little sparse with a fire station and first responders theme. We waited for a fresh pot to be made and were on our way.

After getting fuel, we had one more stop. Hurts Donuts! The shop was kind of difficult to get to-it seemed to be buried in a strip mall. But the parking lot quest was worth it.

In my attempt to document bathroom humor throughout our travels, Hurts Donuts wins it this trip.

Our crawl through Bettendorf had taken just under an hour and had been worth it. A short drive to the interstate and we were on our way home.
