We made our last stop in PCB at 7am at The Pour. In fact we actually had to wait a couple of minutes for them to open up. We bought two very large cups and put the coffee in our thermos. We took one last view of the nice courtyard/patio and we were on our way.
Of course I could tell you all about the traffic but that’s already been mentioned to much as it is. And since the coffee stayed hot we kept on pushing the drive right into west Nashville.
Once we got settled at our hotel, we met our nephew for supper at Honeyfire BBQ. We ordered the brisket and the half-rack of ribs. The bourbon baked beans side were good and we learned that corn pudding in the south is what’s called corn casserole in the north. Topped off with ‘flat’ fries, the meal hit the spot.
We were in the mood to get home so we once again got up early to start our Saturday drive, had a less than inspiring hotel breakfast and walked across the street to a coffee shop, The Well, just as it was opening for business. As it turns out, The Well, with six locations, is a non-profit that donates to clean water projects in under-developed countries. We once again, got extra large coffees and were on our way home.
We made really good time this leg of the trip and just after noon, we hit one of our go-to coffee shops in Effingham IL, Joe Sippers. We had their soup and salad special, bacon egg and cheese wrap and coffee.
We rolled back into town around 2:30 pm and began our re-adjustment to the culture shock that is Illinois.
Will we go to Panama City Beach again? Maybe. We may look further west along the Gulf coast. Even though we enjoy a good adventure, we are both creatures of habit. We might go back to Jacksonville-we got to know that area pretty well. We enjoy our go-to places, our anchors, our routines. But there are more coffee shops (with palm trees) to discover, more fun tours and excursions to be found and more seafood to enjoy.
I wonder if there is a Parlor Donuts in Destin…
